30 Before April 30 Project 25 Completed!

Manzanita trees as wedding centerpieces are all the rage now. If you do a search on craigslist, you'll find brides both selling and renting used centerpieces, and people with access to the unique branches are selling them with a high price tag. My incredibly talented brother offered to take on the job of making me a very large manzanita tree centerpiece but finding the branches was turning out impossible.

On Monday before the wedding, we set out to find another solution. We visited nurseries, craft stores, home improvement stores and even a few trees on the side of the road. Nothing. In the nursery department at Lowe's, we found plan B - a garden iron trellis.

Big brother suggested welding three pieces together and have it freestanding in the middle of the dessert table. With a few fresh flowers and small lights, it turned out pretty great! And we'll place it in our yard with flowers to enjoy for years to come.

30 Before April 30 Project 24 Completed!

For months I had been thinking about our out-of-town (OOT) guest bags. We needed 45 bags so there were limits to what exactly I could and could not do before breaking the bank. At first, I purchased bags from an online paper company, but the size would have required too many fillers to make them actually look good. The second bags I picked up were still too big. Luckily for me, craigslist and receipts brought me back to square one and no money lost.

One day as I walked down the aisles of Jo-Ann Fabrics and Crafts, I spotted the perfect bag - just slightly larger than your run-of-the-mill small gift bags, but not too big that I had to buy 20 different pieces to fill the thing. Better yet, they were on clearance for 50 cents each! I picked up the entire stack ... 46!

The label I placed on each bag was actually a free template that I downloaded and personalized at Wedding Chicks, and I used an Avery shipping label template. I included the following items in each bag:

- large bottle of water
- free local information from the Chamber of Commerce
- snacks
- homemade cookies from my mom (and a personalized label)
- personalized doorhanger (made by me; let me know if you need the template)
- toys and coloring books for the kids
- some of the bags had pictures that we had printed from the bachelor party (his idea)

And to add a little bit of cuteness, a ribbon knotted around the handle. There was a huge weight lifted off of this bride's shoulders when I dropped these off! A big thanks to my cousins for helping me stuff these!

30 Before April 30 Project 23 Completed!

Once upon a time I was skimming a promotional catalog for Sonoma weddings and I found the perfect centerpiece - a lantern frame spilling with fresh flowers. Luckily, I have an incredibly talented brother who took a small magazine picture and created the exact same lantern.

I had a back-up IKEA version. And as you can see, it doesn't compare. He sprayed a semi-matte bronze paint on each lantern.

The talented floral work of my cousin's amazing wife and a candle from the Dollar Tree completes our centerpieces. These turned out much better than I ever imagined.

We also had tables in the dance area and I really wanted to make sure that we stayed low budget with this project. I found this idea at two twenty one. Instead of adding candlestick "pedestals" to each vase, I used only one vase with a pedestal. Two vases were filled with split peas and candles from the Dollar Tree. The last vase held up the flower balls used at our wedding ceremony (we hung them on the pews). Total cost without flower balls: $55 for 10 tables.

30 Before April 30 Project 22 Completed!

To save costs on this little wedding of ours, I often searched through craigslist.com looking for wedding decorations that I might find useful. One day I stumbled upon these cute chalkboard signs that a bride and groom had used at their wedding. I didn't like the base so my brother "volunteered" to do some cosmetic surgery.

I purchased simple metal tins from IKEA and he drilled the signs to the base. My favorite florist just added the fresh flowers the day before the wedding and I made a few squiggles here and there! I'll be selling these back on craigslist.com.

30 Before April 30 Project 21 Completed!

Sometimes when I write thank you notes, I imagine myself as Jimmy Fallon, thanking the people, objects and annoyances in my life, as a studio audience laughs at my clever words, how true they really are.

After shaking my head back to reality, I put heartfelt words to paper - I love thank you notes. I also love making my own and our wedding has been no exception. Since the last year has included DIY save the dates and wedding invitations, I have a lot of leftover pieces of exquisite paper. So to all of the people who have helped us, you get a piece of our wedding to take home in a thank you note!
