craft: paint a letter on it

Wednesday, June 12, 2013

You may be a little overwhelmed with the pillow tutorials this week on IHB, but this post is really about inspirational crafting! When my friends ask for help on DIY projects, I just can't say no! AS was inspired by Lauren Conrad's tutorial on creating accent custom pillows.

At first I thought about making the pillow but she came up with a better idea: buy one already made. Genius.

To create the shape, we cut the letter 'L' on the Silhouette Cameo using vinyl. If you need step-by-step instructions to pimp out your pillow, I recommend following the tutorial on LC's blog, especially if you don't have a Silhouette. Like LC, we also used the Martha Stewart fabric stiffener before applying the paint.

After a few coats of paint to get the right blue tone, the 'N' looks crisp and AS proves to herself that she can take on a DIY project. Plus, there's nothing better than hanging out with inspired friends! Having a warm backyard with cocktails is also a great way to bring them in. Like moths to a flame.

Find an open weekend and bring the girls over to work on those Pinterest projects. I promise it will be time well spent. Happy Wednesday.
