craft: thrift wire basket makeover

Thursday, June 20, 2013

Sometimes I get such a great deal at the thrift store that the excitement cannot be contained! That was the case on a sunny Saturday when I dropped off another load at Goodwill and, like a moth to the thrift store flame, walked right past the 50% off sign into the store.

And walked out with this beauty for $1.50. Yes, the period is in the right spot.

Clearly, this diamond in the rough needed some TLC. I imagined something bright but not obnoxious since it should be used year-round. I picked out a can of Valspar spray paint in avocado and gave this lady a fresh coat. And is your excitement also pouring out of your ears!? Well, it should be!

The basket's premiere showing will be at a first birthday party as the favor dispenser, but will be on display at the Cotton home as a catchall for citrus fruit and a growing stack of wedding invitations!

Don't give up at the thrift store. Some of the most precious items are buried beneath picture frames and old filing systems. Dig deeper and use your creativity to add the unique piece your house needs!
